Where to find official NAPLAN past papers
ACARA’s collection contains released papers for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 from 2012–2016. It links reading materials and questions, writing materials, numeracy papers, language conventions papers and answer sheets.
Use the collection on ACARA’s website so that the source, test year and year level are clear. The PDFs remain on the official site; TestHero does not repackage them as its own practice library.

Check the year, domain and matching answer sheet
A mismatch can make correct working look wrong. Before discussing an answer, confirm that the question number belongs to the same paper as the answer key.
- Choose the learner’s year level and the publication year of the paper.
- For Reading, collect both the reading magazine and the matching question paper.
- For Numeracy, check whether there are separate calculator and non-calculator papers.
- Open the answer sheet for the same test year and year level.
- Keep the writing prompt with its relevant task materials; a multiple-choice answer sheet does not mark a writing response.
How old papers differ from NAPLAN online
A printed question is useful for working slowly, annotating a passage or showing a calculation. It does not practise selecting an on-screen response, using audio or reading a section transition message.
The current official online Reading, Numeracy and Conventions of Language tests use a tailored design. The questions a student sees depend on their pathway. A historical fixed PDF therefore cannot recreate an entire current sitting or provide a valid current score conversion.

Looking for recent NAPLAN papers?
The official released collection linked here covers 2012–2016. A web result advertising a “2027 NAPLAN paper” may be a newly published practice resource rather than an actual official paper. Check the source and description before using it.
For the current format, use ACARA’s public demonstration site. For additional learning, choose clearly labelled original practice material. Do not assume a resource is official because its title contains the current year.

Use a past-paper question as a learning activity
If you are reviewing a historical report alongside a paper, remember that reports before 2023 used a different reporting system. Old bands and the current proficiency levels should not be compared directly.
- Choose a few questions with a clear purpose instead of automatically assigning the whole paper.
- Let the learner show the method or text evidence.
- Check the answer, then discuss the reasoning.
- Change the example or choose a new question using the same skill.
- Record any help given if you want to compare independent attempts.

Original TestHero practice and official papers
TestHero’s practice library uses original NAPLAN-style questions. It is an independent product. The year and domain guides here also contain original examples with explained answers that you can read without an account.
For online TestHero practice, each learner can take one free reduced-scope readiness check. Full papers and detailed reports require home access or a school licence. Choose the resource according to the learning purpose and the available access.
